QUESTION 029Not studied yet

IVMS records show repeated harsh braking. How should this information be used, and does it replace dashboard warnings?

General principles • IVMS and warningsCompared with sources

Answer

Examine the circumstances of the events and improve hazard anticipation and following-distance choices. IVMS scores do not replace vehicle warnings: respond to those according to the instructions.

Please note

The meaning of monitored indicators and alerts depends on the equipment. Do not analyse reports while driving or try to avoid braking at the expense of safety.

A simple explanation

IVMS, an in-vehicle monitoring system, may record speed, harsh acceleration, braking and other indicators. An individual harsh-braking event may be necessary to avoid a collision, so the data must be interpreted in context. A good score does not prove that the brakes or an assistance system are mechanically sound; a dangerous defect must be reported and rectified after stopping safely.

REMEMBER

A score helps you learn; a warning requires appropriate action.

For an instructor and a small group: choose one C/CE freight transport topic in the Lithuania and EU context. Use your own devices, including a phone and a computer.

  1. 3 questions. In ‘Recall’ mode, first answer in your own words, then read the explanation and mark what needs more review.
  2. A lesson and a diagram. Discuss what they explain and which conditions matter.
  3. One scenario. Decide before revealing the solution. Explain the reasons for your chosen action.
  4. A few quiz questions. Read the explanation for each option. You can finish the quiz early; the remaining questions will be marked as unanswered.
  5. Discussion. Everyone names one useful point and one thing that needs correcting.

How can you share or suggest a correction?

You will find the question link and feedback field below this section. Lessons, diagrams and scenarios have their own ‘Copy link’ button. ‘Suggest a correction’ helps you prepare a note with the specific link and version label. Copy or download the text and pass it on for review.

Discuss: is it easy to find an answer and return to the question? Can you explain the reason and the limits of the rule's application? Which sentence is misleading? Flag any significant legal or safety uncertainty for checking before using the material.
