A simple explanation
A gear operating-range diagram relates road speed, the selected gear and engine speed. At the same road speed, a higher gear usually reduces engine speed, so sufficient pulling power must still be available after the shift. In a real truck, follow its specifications and transmission operating instructions.
Before shifting, consider where engine speed will end up.
