How do tachograph data-download deadlines differ from the company's retention period?

Download driver-card data within no more than 28 days with recorded activity, and vehicle-tachograph data within no more than 90 such days. The company must retain tachograph data for at least one year.
Please note
Follow a shorter company schedule when needed to preserve data. The minimum one-year tachograph rule does not permit destruction of other documents that must be kept longer.
A simple explanation
Downloading ensures that the company has copies of the records before they are lost. The download deadline is not the roadside inspection period: producing records for the current day and the preceding 56 days is a separate duty. Working-time records must be retained for at least two years.
