QUESTION 109Not studied yet

A strong crosswind or black-ice warning has been issued for a journey in a high-sided truck. When should the journey be postponed or stopped?

Lithuania / EU: assessing weather risksCompared with sources

Answer

Check the official forecast, road conditions and traffic restrictions. If you cannot maintain safe control and distance, or the route is closed, postpone the journey. If already travelling, stop in a suitable safe place and agree a revised plan with the dispatcher.

Please note

There is no single safe wind-speed limit for every truck; assess the particular vehicle, load and route.

A simple explanation

A high-sided body is particularly affected by crosswind gusts; ice sharply reduces grip. Reducing speed alone may not be enough, so a delivery deadline is no reason to continue an unsafe journey.

REMEMBER

Slowing down may not be enough—sometimes do not drive.

For an instructor and a small group: choose one C/CE freight transport topic in the Lithuania and EU context. Use your own devices, including a phone and a computer.

  1. 3 questions. In ‘Recall’ mode, first answer in your own words, then read the explanation and mark what needs more review.
  2. A lesson and a diagram. Discuss what they explain and which conditions matter.
  3. One scenario. Decide before revealing the solution. Explain the reasons for your chosen action.
  4. A few quiz questions. Read the explanation for each option. You can finish the quiz early; the remaining questions will be marked as unanswered.
  5. Discussion. Everyone names one useful point and one thing that needs correcting.

How can you share or suggest a correction?

You will find the question link and feedback field below this section. Lessons, diagrams and scenarios have their own ‘Copy link’ button. ‘Suggest a correction’ helps you prepare a note with the specific link and version label. Copy or download the text and pass it on for review.

Discuss: is it easy to find an answer and return to the question? Can you explain the reason and the limits of the rule's application? Which sentence is misleading? Flag any significant legal or safety uncertainty for checking before using the material.
