QUESTION 156Not studied yet

What weekly rest is required under the general EU freight transport rule, and when must it start?

EU: weekly restCompared with sources

Answer

In any two consecutive weeks, at least two regular rests of 45 hours each, or one regular rest and one reduced rest of at least 24 hours. Start the next weekly rest no later than 6 × 24 hours after the end of the previous weekly rest.

Please note

The exception allowing two consecutive reduced weekly rests in international freight transport has additional conditions and does not change this general answer.

A simple explanation

If the previous weekly rest ended on Monday at 06:00, the next must start no later than Sunday at 06:00, assuming no time-zone or clock change. Reduced rest must be compensated. A single rest extending across two calendar weeks can be assigned to only one of them.

REMEMBER

45 or at least 24; start within 6 × 24.
