What daily rest rule applies to a multi-manning crew, and when can the second driver take a break while the vehicle is moving?

Each driver must complete at least 9 hours of daily rest within 30 hours of the end of their previous daily or weekly rest. A 45-minute break may be taken while the other driver drives, provided the resting driver does no other work and does not assist the colleague who is driving.
Please note
This concerns multi-manning that complies with Regulation 561/2006. A colleague joining occasionally does not grant all multi-manning exceptions.
A simple explanation
To meet the multi-manning condition, at least two drivers capable of driving must be in the vehicle: the other's presence is optional only during the first hour and mandatory thereafter. Time spent beside a colleague is not automatically daily rest. Each driver's driving and activity records are counted separately.
